Choosing a Domain Name for Your Real Estate Business

I want to start this out by saying, I am NOT an internet guru. Every bit of what I write here is entirely my opinion (and not necessarily what would be the best for your specific situation). Now that all the fun disclaimer stuff is out of the way, I’m going to share some thoughts on what I think are good elements as to what goes into a good domain name.

First, let’s start with your vision.

What do you hope to do with this business you’re creating? Are you hoping to buy as many properties as you can and create a real estate conglomerate? Perhaps you’re wanting to purchase a few high-end properties with cash and enjoy the cash flow. Whatever you decide, it’s important to get this vision figured out early, as I explain in Chapter 4 of The Time-Wealthy Investor.

Second, try to match up your internet name as much as possible with your business name. You don’t want it to be difficult for your residents or vendors to find you. I’ve seen this a lot in the property management world. Someone comes up with what they think is a unique name for a business, only to find out that every reasonable permutation of that name has been used in a multitude of businesses from real estate to snowplow repair.

Lastly, have a little fun with it. This is a business where everyone seems so darn serious all the time. If you want to name your rental business after your favorite dog, why not? Just make sure you’re not confusing people as to what it is your business does when you do.
